Victor Zubeldia's artworks are not background objects, not decoration. It is the search for the endless painting.
Victor Zubeldia was born in Oaxaca and trained at La Esmeralda — Mexico's national fine arts school — where his thesis explored the symbolic power of shadow in painting. He has lived in Mexico, Brazil, and the United States, and has been showing his work since 1993. He lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area.
His paintings are shaped by a lifelong fascination with religion, psychology, and the places where beauty creates moral conflict. Catholic, Jewish, Candomblé — he moves through traditions not as doctrine, but as a painter seeking what they all point toward: the mystery underneath.
"I don't paint to answer questions, not even to question. I am fascinated with the mystery — with what cannot be explained or made sense of."
